That makes 137 food and drink sector transactions recorded on the bevblog.net database for the first quarter of 2012.

The only two over $1,000 million in March were in the supply chain – Switzerland’s Glencore buying Canada’s Viterra in ingredients for $6,100 million and the US Dart purchasing Solo Cup in packaging for $1,000 million.

Of the 39, packaging accounted for 9, ingredients 7 and equipment 3, with dairy on 5, water coolers 3, other beverages 4, other food 6 and confectionery 2.

The United states was involved in 19, with Australia, France, Netherlands, Switzerland and the United Kingdom contributing to 4 apiece.
