Missing out on vitamins

Although vitamins celebrate their centenary this year, conceived by a Polish biochemist in 1912, most of us are still falling short of recommended daily intakes, even in the wealthiest countries.

A review of publicly available data by DSM and published in the British Journal of Nutrition shows that the shortfalls are above 75% in:

  • Germany for vitamin D and folic acid
  • United Kingdom for vitamins D and E
  • United States for vitamins A, D and E.
